I love film. I really do. I love the look of film, I love grain, I love the way shadows and highlights hold up, I love its smell, I love winding on the next frame with my thumb, and I love the fact that I’ve only 36 opportunities to score a great shot – or not.
But when I’m shooting film, I’m acutely aware of how much I miss digital. I miss the ability to shoot in both colour and monochrome simultaneously. I miss the freedom to shoot without losing photo opportunities while changing film. And most of all, I miss being able to move from bright outdoors to the darkest of dungeons without being hampered by ISO film speeds.
As with everything else in life, you can’t always have the best of both worlds. But given the fact that we can choose to shoot either film or digital, it is a great time to be alive. So pick your poison and enjoy it for what it is…
Keep on shooting!"
